On May 20th, 1941, Hitler launched history’s first ever airborne invasion, when German paratroopers landed on the island of Crete.
During the next ten days, the 22,000 ‘Fallschirmjager’ systematically and at a great loss of life, drove over twice that number in allied troops from the island.
