PBS Nova - Super Bridge

The Clark Bridge, crossing the Mississippi River at Alton, Illinois, is a stunningly beautiful testament to the American traits of risk-taking and ingenuity. Using a suspension-bridge variant called “cable-stayed design,” the designers and builders spent four years beset by flooding and high winds to construct this enormous roadway, hoping that they would finish before the elements caught up with them. NOVA’s two-hour Super Bridge documents the thrills and challenges of building such a grand structure, with amazing footage of divers and climbers putting together the concrete and steel which will eventually hold thousands of cars and passengers as they cross our largest river. Brilliant footage and intelligent interviews make this an engaging look at a uniquely American project. –Rob Lightner
