Night and Fog, an eerie documentary about Auschwitz by Alain Resnais,
takes a sardonic look at the inner workings of the concentration camp,
and provides the viewer with juxtaposed images of the turbulent lives led by the inmates, and the “normalcy” that sometimes managed to prevail in spite of the rampant cruelty and death. Throughout the film, themes of irony and duality are explored, which further highlight the lunacy and absurdity of the Nazi Holocaust.
