The House That Mackintosh Built follows the painstaking two-year restoration of 78 Derngate, Northampton - the last major commission of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, the great architect, designer and artist.
Presented by Eric Knowles, this fascinating programme shows how the historic home was brought back to life in time for its opening to the public in March 2004.
As well as renovating the building to its original condition, extensive work was carried out by master craftsmen to replicate the original interior including the striking paint finishes and wallpapers that were such an eye-catching feature.
High quality replicas of some of the key pieces of mackintosh-designed furniture were also recreated, as were many of the soft furnishings such as curtains, cushions and bedspreads.
The house was originally refurbished and extended by Charles Rennie Mackintosh for the model train manufacturer WJ Bassett-lowke, and is considered by architectural historians to be one of the most important works of this period.
The House That Mackintosh Built Celebrates the restoration of this extraordinary building and the work, vision and energy of the craftsmen involved in bringing it back to life.
